Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing is a modality that helps work with the stuck energy of trauma in the body in a way that is supported and titrated in order to not re-traumatize the individual. Linda has completed a three year program in Somatic Experiencing™ qualifying her to work with both shock trauma and developmental trauma. She enjoys teaching trauma concepts in everyday language to both practitioners and clients. Linda also offers psychoeducation to parents and is available to work with kids who have experienced a traumatic event that is impacting their everyday life. Contemplative Spiritual Direction

Spending meditative time in silence, stillness and solitude nourish all that I do. Training in contemplative spiritual direction helped me learn to ask evocative questions, hold sacred space for those exploring the spiritual, and offer mindful exercises to help deepen connection. The threads of our story told through our physiology are gently woven together. Slowing down to observe those threads opens us up to new insights. At one point in my own journey, I sought to find a monk who understood trauma. What I discovered was a beautiful blend of the spiritual and the psychological.

"Always, we begin again." -St. Benedict (6th century monk)

Why I do this work:

Living beneath the wind is a phrase I use with a personal story behind it. When I was young the outside world felt more free and less intimidating than home. If I could make my way quietly out of the house in the early morning I knew I was free until dark. I spent many days on my own exploring how the city worked. The beach was almost always my destination and was worth long bike rides or navigating buses to get to the shores of Coronado. San Diego is beautiful but its temps are mild and quite often we have a breeze-even in the summer. Once I had spent the morning swimming in the ocean, the wind felt like ice and it would take a lot to warm up my scrawny body. I discovered a space that extends about 8 inches above the sand where the wind became still. I could lay there completely flat against the sand and allow my body to warm. The noise would fade and the warmth of the sun would penetrate. I took many naps there with the ocean waves lulling me before I started the long journey home. As I grew older and began to enter into healing spaces, I would often compare it to the feeling I had beneath the wind. Noises fade, the wind becomes still, and the warmth of love covers. This connection with nature is organic to us and helps us understand the path toward healing. In the chaos of our current world we often lose our ability to rest in safety:

  • Trauma and the everyday stress of living in a culture that is always “on”can interfere with our regulation and relationships

  • Attentiveness and awareness are very difficult to practice when our internal world is screaming

  • Unfinished business comes up when we quiet ourselves without numbing.

I know the pain of fear, terror, loss, and overwhelm, that we often encounter in the wilderness spaces of our lives. I also know where to find a drink of water amongst the desert landscapes. It is a path I have traveled and studied with the intent to help others gently navigate healing; transitioning into more lush landscapes of releasing and renewing. I will offer guidance using a mixture of science, attachment, and mysticism. My desire is to offer a safe space that welcomes all nervous systems, personal experiences and holds a range of spiritual life from exploration to deconstruction. Together we will co-create a journey toward resting in safety and healing in love. You can take a step today by contacting me below.
